The pollinators were in danger. That’s what Roxanne Altrui, beekeeper and owner of BeeMade Honey, remembers hearing during the phone call with Chef Andrew Roenbeck, whose team spotted a hive high above a kapok tree at The Boca Raton. The next day, Altrui and her team came out to rescue the all-important bees, whose number topped out at around 500 pollinators, including the queen. “We knew Roxanne would be the right person to call,” Roenbeck says. “Her understanding of the importance of bees to our food production and her tender care to ensure their survival is exactly the type of partner we look for at The Boca Raton.” Altrui, whose BeeMade Honey exclusively produces honey for the property, couldn’t have been happier to save the bees and bring them safely home to her Palm City farm—to buzz another day.
